Abaxx's Q2 Surge: The Exchange's Turning Point
Abaxx Technologies reported its strongest quarter to date in Q2 2026, with total volume reaching 889,000 contracts – a 276% increase from Q1 – and average daily volume (ADV) jumping to 14,600 contracts, then accelerating to 34,100 in July. The company raised $669 million at $54.25 per share, boosting its cash position to $95.1 million. The narrative on the call was one of inflection: after seven years of building infrastructure, the Abaxx exchange is now converting that foundation into commercial activity.
"We have never been more confident in this business," said CEO Josh Crumb. "Q2 gave us the clearest evidence yet that the infrastructure that we had spent 7 years building is converting into commercial market activity." The company added a Mainland China-backed clearing member, Yongan International SG, and expanded its network to 7 clearing firms, 20 interdealer brokers, and over 100 trading firms. Bloomberg and LSEG now distribute Abaxx market data, making the venue visible to institutional traders.
The core strategy is the classic exchange playbook of liquidity provider programs. As Chief Strategy Officer David Greely explained, "Liquidity begets liquidity as more trading participants are attracted to the market by those already trading." These programs are investments, not expenses – they build the depth that attracts commercial hedgers who pay full fees. The company expects net revenue per contract to improve as commercial participation grows.
One standout is the precious metal franchise. Gold volume in Q2 hit 630,000 contracts, up 287% from Q1, and the newly launched Silver Singapore future traded 107,000 contracts in its first month. Crumb sees a path for the complex to reach standalone breakeven by 2028, potentially carrying the exchange's baseline costs. "precious metals can now become a core asset for Abaxx rather than a niche market share," he noted.
But the quarter was not without noise. A short-seller campaign by Viceroy Research prompted the company to hire Paul, Weiss and initiate an independent audit-committee investigation, which found "no evidence supporting the allegations." Management also authorized a normal-course issuer bid to protect shareholders. "The Board believes the current market price does not reflect the underlying value of the company," said David Greely.
The financial reporting also required restatement – a reclassification of liquidity-related credits under IFRS 15 that reduced Q1 revenue by $1.4 million and increased net loss by $1.3 million. CFO Steve Fray outlined the corrections, acknowledging they were "corrected over the weekend before the markets opened." While not ideal, the transparency was appreciated by analysts.
Looking ahead, Abaxx is executing against a defined set of milestones: extended trading hours, product suite expansion into oil, base metals and agriculture, first Tier-1 bank onboard, physical deliveries, and the live acceptance of money market fund shares as collateral – a capability enabled by MarketOS and Abaxx Clearing. The company remains disciplined on dilution, even as it scales.
We believe we are still a few quarters away from being able to project guidance and break even for each product individually and for the exchange collectively, but we believe these final key infrastructure completions will put us in that position well before we would seek new growth capital from strategic partners or the equity markets.
With a market cap under $1 billion, Abaxx is clearly a high-risk, high-reward story. The Q2 results suggest the cold-start problem is being solved. The Singapore-based exchange is carving out a niche in the duopoly-dominated commodity space, and the market is beginning to take notice.
