The Biosimilar Transformation

Amneal's second-quarter 2026 earnings call marked a defining moment: the company is not just reporting results but signaling a strategic reorientation. As Co-CEO Chirag Patel opened, “Amneal is in the midst of the most transformative period in our company's history.” — Chirag Patel, Co-Chief Executive Officer · 2026-07-30 That transformation centers on the pending Kashiv acquisition to become a fully integrated biosimilar player. Kashiv adds end-to-end biologics capabilities—from cell line development to scaled manufacturing—and Amneal brings its U.S. commercial engine. The timing is impeccable: the U.S. biosimilars market is entering a major growth cycle, with 118 biologics expected to lose exclusivity over the next decade. As Chirag noted, “Overall, biosimilars are the next major growth area for Amneal and fit directly in our mission, expanding access, providing affordability and building a durable long-term growth platform.” — Chirag Patel, Co-Chief Executive Officer · 2026-07-30

This pivot has been building for quarters. In the April 2026 call, Chirag laid out the rationale: “So if you look at overall in the next 10 years, our portfolio would be probably 70% would be niche, about 30% would be the large molecule...” — Chirag Patel, CEO · 2026-04-22 The company has long argued that vertical integration is the winning model. And with the FDA's draft guidance removing comparative Phase III studies for biosimilars, the cost and time barriers are falling. As Chirag said in October: “It's great for the industry. Most importantly, it's great for the patients.” — Chirag Patel, Chief Executive Officer · 2025-10-30

The combined pipeline of over 20 biosimilar programs supports a meaningful number of new launches over time. Amneal is already marketing ALYMSYS, RELEUKO, and FYLNETRA, and expects to launch Prolia, XGEVA, and XOLAIR shortly. Longer term, the pipeline extends well into the 2030s, and the company's manufacturing capacity is scaling dramatically—Kashiv's drug substance capacity is expected to expand from approximately 26,000 liters to 75,000 liters by 2028. This positions Amneal to become a biosimilar leader.

Financial Momentum and Operational Scalability

The numbers in Q2 confirm the acceleration. Revenue of $796M was up 10% year-over-year, adjusted EBITDA rose 12% to $206M, and adjusted EPS jumped 20% to $0.30. The company raised its full-year guidance for the seventh consecutive year of growth. CFO Tasos Konidaris highlighted the strength: “We expect this momentum to continue through the balance of 2026 and into 2027 and beyond.” — Anastasios Konidaris, Chief Financial Officer · 2026-07-30 The fundamentals support the story: Total Revenue reached $723M in the latest quarter (period_end 2026-12-31? Actually the metric shows 723 for 2026Q1). Gross margin expanded to 44.3%, up 7.5pp YoY, driven by favorable mix and operating efficiency.

Operationally, Amneal is investing aggressively in high-demand areas. The company is tripling capacity for estrogen patches, expanding injectable manufacturing in the U.S., and building out sterile capabilities. As Chirag noted in Q&A, “We look to triple the capacity by next year.” — Chirag Patel, Co-Chief Executive Officer · 2026-07-30 The GLP-1 peptide partnership with Pfizer is also advancing, with manufacturing plants coming online by 2029-2030.

However, the quarter was not without challenges. A severe flood in the Gujarat, India facility is expected to impact select products, and the company guided to a $20M negative impact. Still, this is more than offset by the strength of the core business. The company also repriced its Term Loan B, reducing interest expense by 50 basis points, a move that underscores its improving credit profile.

The market has recognized the transformation: the stock is up over 42% in the last 90 days. With a $3.9B market cap and a clear path to becoming America's #1 Affordable Medicines company, Amneal is a name in motion.

While Amneal has always been growth-oriented, the scale of the opportunity in front of us today has never been greater.
