Aura Minerals: The MSG Turnaround Finally Shows Up in the Numbers

The Quarter That Was Promised

Aura's Q3 2026 call was the first in some time where management could point to a tangible operational inflection rather than another pledge. “We reached a production of 96,000 gold equivalent ounces. This is a 27% increase compared to the last quarter.” — Rodrigo Barbosa, CEO · 2026-11-06 That drove record quarterly revenue of $386 million and adjusted EBITDA of $237 million. Nine-month EBITDA of $677 million already exceeds full-year 2025, and trailing-twelve-month EBITDA stands at $886 million. The company reiterated 2026 guidance of 340,000–390,000 GEO. The important improvement was not just volume: recurring free cash flow was $124 million, enough to fund growth capex, dividends, and buybacks while keeping net debt near $180 million, or 0.2x EBITDA. “we're reporting net revenues of $386 million. It's a record high that we are reporting for a single quarter.” — João Cardoso, CFO · 2026-11-06 But the cost line remains the asterisk. Consolidated all-in sustaining costs were $1,953/oz, above the guidance range, and management leaned on Q4 grades and a better Brazilian real to argue it can still meet full-year AISC guidance. That is not a victory lap; it is a 'comfortable zone' claim that will be tested in the fourth quarter.

MSG, again, a very important first quarter with just the beginning of the results of the turnaround. We already generated $24 million on EBITDA and we continue to do advanced development on the underground activities so that we now can gradually invert top-down to bottom-up and mix more high grade from underground instead of low grade that is on the top. So we will see improvements going through the Q4. And of course, major improvement is going to come during 2027.

What's Actually New: Fleet Insourcing and Hot Water

Two genuinely new threads emerged this quarter. First, Aura announced mine fleet insourcing across Apoena, Almas, and Borborema. The rationale is straightforward: contractor pricing came in 'significantly higher' than Aura's own cost base, and the company believes it can run the fleet more efficiently. CADE approval is expected early next year. This is a direct response to cost inflation—not a silver bullet, but a lever management can pull without waiting for the market. Second, Era Dorada's hot water problem is now a central engineering and partnership theme. The project is 13% complete physically, on time and on budget, but the hydrothermal underground requires pumping hot water out and refrigeration infrastructure. Rodrigo said Aura is now looking for partners to invest in geothermal with the company—a sensible way to turn a cost and risk into a potential energy solution. Aura will hold its Aura Day at Nasdaq on November 30, where it promises deeper updates on MSG, Era Dorada, the zero-based budget, and exploration. These are company-unique details. They are also the kind of operational complexity that separates a real growth story from a slide deck.

The Recurring Tension: MSG Promises vs. Delivery

The most important contrast is between this quarter's MSG evidence and the prior three calls' language. In August 2026, Rodrigo warned Aura “might be at the lower end of the guidance... But we are very confident that all the groundwork that's been doing will take us to produce at close to 80,000 ounces and close to $2,000 per ounce.” — Rodrigo Barbosa, Chief Executive Officer · 2026-08-06 In May 2026, he said the underground preparation would be concluded by the end of the year: “We need time to do that... we believe that we will be able to conclude that preparation by the end of this year.” — Rodrigo Barbosa, CEO · 2026-05-07 The current call finally has a number—$24 million of MSG EBITDA—but management also says it needs '4, 5 months more' to have the mine fully prepared. That is not a finished turnaround; it is the first credible installment. The cost of past hedging also lingers. Aura paid $34 million to settle gold collars in Q3 and still has about 141,000 ounces of gold collars expiring through mid-2028. That is a real cash drag against the record EBITDA headline, even if it fades over time.

Capital Allocation: Growth, Dividends, and the 1 Million Ounce Aspiration

Aura's balance sheet is no longer the constraint. The $200 million syndicated loan closed in September lifted the cash position to roughly $420 million. The company declared a $0.72/share dividend and bought back $10 million of stock, for a trailing yield of about 4%. Capital World Investors crossed 10% of shares outstanding—a useful external validation. “We continue to be a leveraged company and walking the talk.” — Rodrigo Barbosa, CEO · 2026-11-06 Management's capital allocation pitch is unchanged: fund Era Dorada, finish MSG, expand Borborema, advance Matupa, and keep looking for M&A in the Americas, gold and copper. Rodrigo was explicit that Aura knows how to get to 600,000 ounces internally but needs acquisitions to reach 1 million ounces; he also said there is no target to do a deal next year. The market may read that as discipline or as a lack of urgency. Given the stock's growth multiple, the burden of proof is on execution, not on another promise.

Bottom Line

Aura's Q3 was a genuine step forward: record revenue, record EBITDA, first real MSG earnings, and a balance sheet that can fund the growth. But the story is still a 'show me' one. The MSG turnaround is not complete, AISC is above guidance, and Era Dorada's hot water and geothermal issues are real engineering risks. If the next two quarters deliver the promised Q4 cost improvement and MSG exits the year at a credible run-rate, the re-rating case becomes much harder to ignore. If not, the market will treat 'major improvement is going to come during 2027' as one more deferral.
