BillionToOne's Growth Engine Hits New Gears, But the Market's Foot Is on the Brake
Strong Q2 revenue and profitability, but a 36% post-earnings drawdown signals investor skepticism about the durability of the ramp.

The Quarter That Was
BillionToOne delivered another quarter of accelerated growth and profitability. Revenue jumped 64% year over year to $109M, with oncology revenue tripling to $13.7M. Gross margin expanded to 70.5%, and the company posted $5.5M of GAAP operating income – a 5% margin – and 15% adjusted EBITDA margin. The balance sheet remains formidable with $549M in cash. The product engine is firing on multiple cylinders. The launch of North Star Origin – a tissue-of-origin add-on – and the upcoming UNITY Fetal Antigen Screen expansion to a 130-gene panel signal a deliberate effort to widen the moat. “UnityConfirm has seen strong adoption following the launch of May 28.” — Oguzhan Atay, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer · 2026-08-05 The company also highlighted its Epic Aura integration speed: "We launched on Epic Aura platform in under 5 months, a record speed for any laboratory." (prep, same hash) Actually that's in the same component, we can quote it. But we already used two quotes from the same hash? We can use another hash. We'll use the Q&A hash for the hiring quote. The company's emphasis on sales rep hiring – more than 70 added in the first half – is a bet on future growth, but it carries near-term friction. “We were not doing the hiring due to the competitive environment, but all actually due to continued opportunity that we have, especially with respect to health systems.” — Oguzhan Atay, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer · 2026-08-05 The same story applies to revenue recognition: “quarter to quarter, we did see about a $4.5 million increase in prenatal revenues. If you exclude the true up, you know, it is about 5% growth sequentially.” — Ross Taylor Jr., Chief Financial Officer · 2026-08-05 These adjustments – the true-up volatility and the $10M of held claims awaiting in-network implementation – mask the underlying momentum in the reported top line. The Market's Unease
Despite the operational sheen, the stock has fallen 36% from its August 5 close (the earnings day) – a sharp reversal from the 55% rally in the prior 13 weeks. The drawdown suggests investors are focused on the mix shift and the path to sustaining 70% gross margins. CEO Oguzhan Atay acknowledged the tension:That statement underscores the efficiency, but the forward message is more cautious. Management reiterated full-year guidance of $450–$465M (48–52% growth) without raising, and the launch of MRD – a deliberately dilutive product – could press margins below the 70% floor temporarily. The prior quarter's optimism about payer expansion has also shifted tone. In Q1, management was confident about ASP upside: “The guidance increase came from the strength we had in Q1, factoring that into the guidance, as well as an ASP lift we expect to see from several additional payer contracts we entered into since the start of 2026.” — Ross Taylor, Chief Financial Officer · 2026-05-06 But this quarter, they highlighted the impact of National payers delaying in-network implementation, which suppressed ASPs and true-up revenue. The company does not embed true-ups in guidance, providing a clean baseline, but also leaving upside optionality. The fundamental cash generation remains healthy. Free cash flow (less SBC) turned positive in Q1 2026 at $4M, up 312% YoY, and management reports Q2 FCF of $5.1M, extending the trend. That, combined with $549M in cash, provides ample runway to fund the oncology lab and MRD launch. We have done this at a much lower scale than our public competitors, with an accumulated deficit that is approximately 10% of theirs.
