Celsius: Alani Saves the Quarter, but CELSIUS Still Owes 2027 a Comeback

A record Alani Nu quarter and a new brand-led structure cannot mask another CELSIUS delay, a gross-margin walk-back, and a fourth-quarter air pocket.
CELH · Earnings Call · 2026-11-05

The quarter belonged to Alani

Celsius Holdings reported roughly $847 million of third-quarter revenue, up about 17% year over year, but the consolidated number hides a sharply bifurcated portfolio. Alani Nu delivered approximately $410 million of net sales, up about 24%, with retail scans up roughly 58%. Witch’s Brew generated more than $130 million in retail sales and, at its peak week, would have ranked as the fifth-largest energy drink in track channels if it were its own brand. More important, excluding that limited-time offer, core Alani retail sales still grew approximately 50% year over year. That is not just an LTO stunt; it is a base business compounding fast enough to make the Alani Nu brand the company’s growth engine. Management also noted modern energy brands contributed about 28% of zero-sugar energy category growth, a theme Monster’s own call echoed with Zero sugar growth. The problem is that a portfolio with one hero brand becomes a concentration story when the legacy engine is still sputtering.

CELSIUS: the comeback keeps moving right

Brand CELSIUS net sales fell approximately 6%, and retail scans in track channels fell approximately 7%. John Fieldly was unusually direct: “Brand CELSIUS is not yet where we want it to be.” — John Fieldly, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer · 2026-11-05 He then framed 2027 as the recovery year, saying the current plan sets “the stage for the brand being back to expected growth across 2027” — John Fieldly, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer · 2026-11-05. That is a meaningful shift in timing. On the prior call, in August, Fieldly had said: “As we exit the year, we expect to continue to get CELSIUS back to growth, and category growth in '27 and beyond.” — John Fieldly, Chairman and CEO · 2026-08-06 The goalposts have moved from exiting 2026 to growing across 2027. Management has already conceded the self-inflicted part of the problem: “We went too deep on the CELSIUS rationalization.” — John Fieldly, Chairman and CEO · 2026-08-06 The Brand CELSIUS recovery is now a 2027 story, with innovation deliberately delayed this year, TDPs still cycling lower, and weekly scan dollars running in the $50 million-$55 million range. The company is asking investors to wait another year for the original brand to stabilize.

Margins and the fourth-quarter air pocket

The margin picture is equally uncomfortable. Jarrod Langhans said: “Third quarter gross margin was 46.8% compared with 48.1% in the second quarter and 51.3% a year ago.” — Jarrod Langhans, Chief Financial Officer · 2026-11-05 Aluminum and diesel moved higher, and the company now expects full-year gross margin in the high 40s rather than the low 50s it once framed as the destination. In the prior quarter, Langhans had said “we do have visibility into the low 50s and beyond with the initiatives and the programs that we have in place.” — Jarrod Langhans, Chief Financial Officer · 2026-05-07 The language has changed from visibility to delay. This is not a CELH-only issue: the market’s Aluminum production theme is a direct COGS line for a canned-beverage company. Gross margin has compressed as commodity costs overwhelmed integration savings.

Putting it together, the fourth quarter is the most difficult comparison of the year on a reported basis, and we expect that reported revenue growth will be below what we delivered through the first three quarters.

Jarrod Langhans, Chief Financial Officer · 2026-11-05

The setup is mechanical: roughly $20 million-$25 million of shipments moved into Q3 that were planned for Q4, and last year’s Q4 had a roughly $25 million inventory benefit that does not recur. This is shipment timing, not a demand collapse, but optics matter. The last filed quarter showed total revenue of $818 million, up 11% year over year, and the Q3 print improved sequentially. Yet the stock has already de-rated violently: price-to-revenue sits at 2.4x, down 92% from its 2021 peak, and the shares remain about 69% below the 2024 high. The balance sheet has also shifted: effective net cash was negative $62 million in the last filed quarter, versus $890 million at the end of 2024. Celsius repurchased $45 million of stock in Q3 and $169 million year to date, leaving $91 million under its authorization. That is a reasonable use of cash if the brand recovery is real, but it is not a fortress-balance-sheet cushion anymore.

What actually changed

The genuinely new item is organizational and commercial, not the quarterly noise. Celsius is creating three brand-led business units — CELSIUS, Alani Nu, and Rockstar & Emerging Growth — each with a dedicated president. That is a real attempt to stop managing a portfolio as a consolidated spread of brands and start allocating focus, shelf space, and marketing by brand economics. The revenue growth management program is also moving from tactical promotion fixes to a portfolio-level system: a brand ladder, consistent pack architecture, and a multi-year pricing and trade roadmap. Management expects Trade investment as a percentage of gross sales to improve as that system takes hold, but the benefits build through 2027 and into 2028, not in the fourth quarter. That is the right long-term answer, but it does not solve the near-term optics.

Celsius is no longer a single-brand growth stock. It is a portfolio-integration story with a record Alani Nu quarter, a still-shrinking CELSIUS brand, and a margin recovery that keeps getting pushed out by commodities. The fourth quarter will be ugly on reported growth, and 2027 is now the proof year. If Alani keeps compounding and CELSIUS merely stabilizes, the portfolio can work. If CELSIUS does not, Alani alone may not be enough to carry a $7.6 billion market cap. The stock has already discounted a lot, but this report does not resolve the debate — it just moves the deadline.
