A New Chapter in Hearing AI

Demant's second-quarter report was dominated by the announcement of its new flagship hearing aid, Oticon Reveal, featuring what the company calls the world's first Dual AI system. As CEO Søren Nielsen put it, “We introduced the world's first Dual AI system.” — Søren Nielsen, President and CEO · 2026-08-12 The system runs two parallel neural networks—one for noise suppression and one for speech enhancement—in real time, powered by a single chip. This is a deliberate architectural choice that maintains energy efficiency while delivering what the company describes as “unmatched precision of speech.” The Oticon Reveal platform is built to be “second to none,” according to Nielsen: “There is nobody else that managed to combine AI opportunities for both noise and speech being available all the time any given time in an ordinary minimized form factor, rechargeable, full connectivity and everything.” — Søren Nielsen, President and CEO · 2026-08-12 The reveal builds on the momentum of Oticon Zeal, the invisible-in-canal device that has been a key share gainer over the past year. In the call, Nielsen confirmed that Zeal has been a “significant success in all retail,” contributing to both unit growth and ASP improvements. “Oticon Zeal has been also a significant success in all retail.” — Søren Nielsen, President and CEO · 2026-08-12 The company sees Reveal as complementary—a way to capture upgrades from existing users while Zeal continues to open new doors with first-time users and the VA channel.

Financial Upgrades and Resilience

The innovation is paying off financially. Demant upgraded its full-year guidance, now expecting organic revenue growth of 6-7% (up from 3-6%) and EBIT before special items of DKK 4.4-4.8 billion. As Nielsen stated:

And based on our performance in the first half and reassessment of the momentum and the outlook for second half, we have upgraded our financial outlook for 2026.

The second quarter saw Hearing Aids grow 10% organically, with broad-based gains across geographies. The AI system is not just a marketing story; it's driving premium pricing and a 1.1 percentage point gross margin expansion. CFO René Schneider noted that the margin increase was “above our expectation,” driven by a favorable product and channel mix, as well as the contribution from the acquisition of KIND. That acquisition has been transformative for Hearing Care, which posted 8% organic growth in the quarter. The integration of KIND is ahead of plan, and the company raised its expected EBIT contribution from KIND to DKK 325 million. The acquisition of KIND has also allowed Demant to deleverage ahead of schedule, with net leverage now at 3.0x, and the company expects to be “slightly above” its 2-2.5x target by year-end. The cost saving initiatives announced in February are progressing ahead of plan, with the company now expecting DKK 300 million in savings and a higher special items charge of DKK 400 million to fund the integration and restructuring.

Market Share Gains and a Crowded Landscape

The competitive environment is intensifying. As Nielsen noted in the prior call, competitors are expected to launch new products in H2, but Demant believes its portfolio—Zeal and Reveal—remains differentiated. “We, of course, expect competition to continue to try to innovate and bring new products to the market.” — Søren Nielsen, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) · 2026-02-03 Unlike in the past, however, Demant's confidence in gaining share is grounded in concrete momentum: the U.S. commercial market may be flat, but Demant is taking share in the independent channel and the VA channel, where Zeal has only recently been launched. Meanwhile, the Hearing Care retail business is outperforming, helped by organic growth and the scale from KIND. Prior to this quarter, the big question was whether Zeal could sustain its momentum. Nielsen had argued in February that Zeal would drive market share gains once fully rolled out: “I'm sure Zeal will create once we get full rollout in all channels at the end are opened.” — Søren Nielsen, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) · 2026-02-03 That conviction appears justified: the H1 results show growth accelerating from Q1 to Q2, and the company now expects to outgrow the market by a wide margin.

What's Next?

The launch of Reveal is the latest step in Demant's strategy to lead in AI-driven hearing care. With two flagship products, a robust pipeline, and a disciplined cost structure, the company is positioning itself to navigate a market that remains below its long-term 4-6% growth trajectory. The near-term challenge is the expected competitive launches, but Demant's track record with Zeal suggests it can hold its own. For investors, the key takeaway is that Demant has shifted from a defensive posture to an offensive one: guidance is up, margins are expanding, and the product cycle is the strongest in years. The company is not just riding a wave—it's creating it.
