DXC's Agentic Pivot: Execution Heats Up, but the Tape Waits for the Back-Half Ramp

New leadership, Anthropic partnership, and proof points (AgenTxSOC, OASIS) take center stage, yet revenue declines persist and the stock remains under pressure.
DXC · Earnings Call · 2026-07-30
DXC is in the midst of a high-stakes transformation, and this quarter's earnings call was less about vision and more about proof. The company has been talking about AI for over a year, but now it is bringing in new leadership, new products, and a new sales motion, all centered around OASIS and AgenTxSOC solution, with Anthropic as a key partner. The question is whether these agentic bets can arrest a multi-quarter revenue slide.

The Agentic Pivot Takes Shape

The call opened with a flurry of leadership changes: Raymond August joining as President, Dan Gray taking over GIS, and Jennifer Ragone promoted to head AI innovation. Raul Fernandez framed this as placing "the strongest leaders in the areas where we see the greatest opportunity." More tellingly, he emphasized a shift from efficiency to growth: “It is to use Agentic AI to change how we build, sell, and deliver technology and ultimately return DXC to growth.” — Raul J. Fernandez, CEO · 2026-07-30 This is a strategic pivot from the defensive cost-cutting of prior quarters to an offensive, product-led agenda. The company's own keyword trajectory confirms this inflection. "AgenTxSOC," "OASIS," and "Anthropic" all spiked to the top of the rankings in fiscal Q1 2027 – previously they were barely present. This is not sector boilerplate; it's a company-specific bet on agentic operations. Management is leaning into a "connect, do not convert" philosophy, arguing that customers can leverage AI without discarding legacy systems, and that DXC's unique position as an operator of critical systems gives it a trust advantage.

Proof Points and Customer Traction

The strongest evidence comes from the numbers they are citing. On the AgenTxSOC security solution, mean time to intrusion detection has collapsed from ~21 minutes to ~6 seconds. Fernandez called out this "fundamentally different operating model." He also highlighted that a major entertainment company completed a technical evaluation in under 4 weeks and signed a multiyear, multimillion-dollar deal. For OASIS, prospects are reaching contract stage in under 6 weeks, versus historical sales cycles of 6-12 months. These are the kinds of metrics that could change the narrative, and Fernandez is leaning into them hard:

The return to growth at DXC will be fueled increasingly by products and solutions that we can build in a capital light way.

He later added, "Those 2 pages, those 2 charts are the only things I would bring to a CEO level conversation." This is a conscious effort to move the conversation from restructuring to innovation. The company is also scaling its "forward deployed engineer" model with Anthropic, aiming to certify tens of thousands of engineers – an ambitious play that could turn DXC into a channel for agentic implementation. It remains early, but the pipeline is building.

The Financial Reality Check

However, the financials are still messy. Total revenue declined 6.7% YoY to $3.0B, with GIS down 11% and only insurance showing growth (+1.4%). Adjusted EBIT margin came in at 5.0%, down 180 bps. The company guided Q2 revenue to decline 5.5-6.5% and raised full-year free cash flow guidance to ~$685M, but that includes a $214M benefit from the TCS litigation settlement. Excluding that, free cash flow was just $100M in the quarter. Total revenue in Q1 FY27 was $3.0B, down 6.7% YoY, and the company is counting on a meaningful back-half improvement. Robert Del Bene explained that about 75% of the second-half improvement is baked into the opening backlog, with GIS leading the recovery. Adjusted EBIT margin was 5.0%, down 180 bps YoY. But the stock market is not yet convinced. The 90-day price trend shows DXC down about 5.6%, with a drawdown of 18.9% from its April peak. The tape is telling you that investors are waiting for actual revenue inflection, not just promises.

What the Tape Says

In a global context where AI-related keywords like "data centers" and "HPC" are all declining over the past 30 days, DXC's agentic angle is differentiated – it's about operational AI, not infrastructure. Yet the company's own momentum keywords show that "big deal" and "line of sight" are top concerns, underscoring that execution risk remains. The market has heard these stories before. As Fernandez said on a prior call, "This is the beginning of the beginning for AI," and on this call he reiterated that the strategy is unchanged – the evidence is what's new. What changed this quarter is the level of conviction and the proof points. DXC now has tangible metrics to show customers and investors. The question is whether they can convert these early wins into the back-half revenue ramp they've promised. If they do, this stock – trading at just 0.2x price-to-sales – could re-rate. If not, it will be another quarter of hope. The next two quarters will be decisive.
