Strong Q1 FY27 results, new metrics and AI SRE capabilities, and a raised guidance underscore a platform inflection.

A Blowout Quarter

Elastic N.V. delivered a robust first quarter of fiscal 2027, beating across all guided metrics and demonstrating the constant-currency acceleration management had promised. Total revenue reached $478 million, up 15% year-over-year, while sales-led subscription revenue grew 18% to $399 million. More tellingly, the company added more than 80 net new customers with $100,000-plus ACV—the largest quarterly increase ever—and ended the period with 1,800 such customers. This strength is reflected in the stock: Elastic's shares have surged approximately 110% over the past 90 trading days, a dramatic re-rating of the business as AI tailwinds become more tangible. Revenue has grown from $37M in 2017Q4 to $451M in 2026Q2, with a steady upward trajectory and a recent acceleration. The quarter also saw AI adoption become a central growth driver. “Over 37% of our 100,000-plus ACV customers are now using Elastic for AI, up from approximately 21% a year ago.” — Ashutosh Kulkarni, Chief Executive Officer · 2026-08-27This penetration jump is not just a vanity metric—management noted that AI-using customers expand at roughly 5% faster rates than others, a dynamic that should compound as more of the base adopts AI workloads.

AI-Driven Momentum

The company's positioning as the context layer for AI applications is gaining traction. Ash Kulkarni emphasized that the shift from "token maxing" to building agentic applications plays directly to Elastic's strengths. The launch of Vector DB index mode and auto-calibration, plus the integration of Jina's multimodal models for on-prem and air-gapped environments, expands the addressable market. “Our Q1 revenue acceleration on a constant currency basis, both for total and for sales-led subscription revenue as well as our second straight quarter of 20% constant currency CRPO growth provides validation for acceleration trajectory.” — Navam Welihinda, Chief Financial Officer · 2026-08-27 This momentum is echoed by the company's RPO growth of 27% and CRPO growth of 21%, signaling customers are making multiyear commitments. The security business, in particular, is benefiting from the Alert Zero vision—an AI-driven SOC that prioritizes real attacks. “Even this quarter, if I may just add to what Navam said, we had -- security was -- grew incredibly well. The order roughly was security, AI, search AI and then observability...” — Ashutosh Kulkarni, Chief Executive Officer · 2026-08-27 This is a continuation of a theme that began last year. As Ash noted in the May 2026 call, “And that is driving a lot of momentum for us.” — Ashutosh Kulkarni, Chief Executive Officer · 2026-05-28 And in February 2026, he laid out the context engineering vision: “The most important thing to keep in mind is context is going to change from task to task.” — Ashutosh Kulkarni, Chief Executive Officer · 2026-02-27

Product Innovation and the Observability Push

Elastic is also relaunching its metrics offering with Columnar mode, a new index mode for time-series data that compresses storage costs by ~80% (to ~3 bytes per metric sample). This is a direct assault on incumbents like Datadog and Prometheus-native platforms. The acquisition of Deductive AI adds reinforcement-learning-driven SRE automation.

By integrating Deductive's reasoning capabilities into our Observability platform, we are building a true agentic SRE, one that can autonomously detect, investigate and guide remediation across the full signal stack.

Ashutosh Kulkarni, Chief Executive Officer · 2026-08-27
Early feedback from customers is positive, and management expects metrics to become a meaningful growth vector over the next few years. The company also announced a virtual public webinar on September 22 to highlight these capabilities, indicating confidence in the roadmap.

Financial Trajectory and Guidance

Financially, the outlook is improving. Non-GAAP operating margin came in at 16.2%, and the company raised full-year guidance: total revenue now expected at $1.998–2.010 billion (15.3% constant-currency growth) and operating margin of 19.4%. Adjusted free cash flow margin is expected to remain at 21.5%. The company is also progressing toward its "Rule of 40" target. Key metrics support the story: Operating margin has improved from -19% in 2017 to -3.6% in 2026Q2, with a clear upward trend over the past two years. The strong cash generation is also evident—FCF margin reached 33.2% in 2026Q2, up from 9% a year ago. What changed? Elastic is no longer just a search company; it is positioning itself as the data and context platform for the AI era. The combination of record customer adds, accelerated product innovation, and a re-accelerating growth trajectory suggests this is a genuine inflection point. As CFO Navam Welihinda said, "We are growing revenue efficiently while maintaining disciplined investments and are making progress towards Rule of 40." The 90-day stock move reflects that confidence.
