Fennec Pharmaceuticals: Record Demand Turns the Growth Engine to a Higher Gear

A +94% 90-day run-up, a 78% revenue jump, an energized sales force — and a peanut-bag marketing blitz that's anything but vanilla

Fennec Pharmaceuticals: Record Demand, Broader Reach, and a Marketing Blitz

For the seventh straight quarter, Fennec Pharmaceuticals delivered growth — and this time the numbers came with unusual force. Q2 2026 net product sales hit $17.1 million, up 78% year-over-year, while non-GAAP adjusted EBITDA swung to +$2.8M (from a -$1.2M loss) and GAAP EPS turned positive at $0.05. The stock had already sniffed it out: FENC rose roughly +94% in the 90 trading days through the August 11 report, peaking the day of the call before a modest -12% pullback.

CEO Jeff Hackman framed the quarter as the payoff of a two-year turnaround plan:

Two years ago, I joined Fennec with clear objectives: build the team, sharpen our execution and position the company for sustainable long-term growth... Today's results, including our seventh consecutive quarter of growth, reflect momentum we've created and the commitment of our entire organization.

Jeffrey Hackman, Chief Executive Officer · 2026-08-11

That momentum is now translating into the financials — and the company believes the slope of the curve still has room to steepen.

The Sales Force Is Finally at Full Stride

The engine is "Project Ignite," the commercial expansion that grew the customer-facing team from ~1,300 to ~5,000 prescriber targets. The ramp was telegraphed on the prior quarter's call, when the team cautioned that new reps wouldn't contribute day one. As Terry Evans said then: “there's a ramp period of productivity for our sales team... we're encouraged that with the strengthened commercial footprint, we're going to drive reach and frequency.” — Terry Evans, Commercial Executive · 2026-05-14 That ramp appears to be coming in faster than modeled. Q2 field sales calls grew 280%, and the new reps are adding new territories — patients in places "where we've never seen patients before," per Jeff Hackman. CFO Robert Andrade quantified the result: “We witnessed the highest amount of new patient enrollments in the second quarter and carry record demand for PEDMARK into the third quarter.” — Robert Andrade, Chief Financial Officer · 2026-08-11

The most striking data point came from Terry Evans on the commercial update: “in the month of July, we reported an all-time high of completed PEDMARK infusions, new patient enrollments, active patients on therapy and new customers in a single month.” — Terry Evans, Sales · 2026-08-11 Adds are accelerating. More than half of the business now flows through the Fennec HEARS patient-support hub and the home-infusion channel — an operational choice that makes initiation and adherence easier for both patients and providers, supporting the record patient enrollments and a steadily growing base of active patients on therapy.

Peanuts at the Speedway, Science at the Congress

The freshest theme — and the one most likely to be read as company-unique — is a deliberate push into consumer disease awareness. Chief Strategy Officer Christy Cioffi (a newly added voice on the call, with a decorated commercial background) walked through the "Indy's Nuts" campaign launched at the Indianapolis 500: sponsorships with racecar driver Jack Harvey and NFL linebacker Alex Singleton, plus the distribution of over 100,000 bags of peanuts — an intentionally disruptive way to drive testicular self-exam education and pre-treatment conversations about cisplatin-induced hearing loss. Cioffi said the campaign “performed... exceeded industry norms in several categories” — Christiana Cioffi, Unknown · 2026-08-11, and its momentum carried into ASCO, where the "Fennec Speedway" booth generated hundreds of HCP leads and earned a Fierce Pharma wrap-up mention.

The marketing is eye-catching, but the substance underneath is medical-affairs-led. Pierre Sayad noted the expanded MSL team engaged a record number of new HCPs and sites (medical affairs reach up 63%, affiliated sites up 72%), nearly tripled its medical-congress footprint, and — encouragingly — observed the ASCO conversation shift from awareness to implementation: providers asking practical questions about dosing workflows rather than whether to use PEDMARK. Testicular Cancer remains the largest AYA tumor-type driver (over 80% of the commercial mix is testicular, cervical, and head & neck), and a third investigator-initiated study — now with the University of Arizona Cancer Center — joins City of Hope and Tampa General in the evidence pipeline. The Japanese STS-J01 trial was also selected for an oral presentation at SIOP 2026, marking the first public readout of human PK data.

The Numbers Are Starting to Confirm the Story

Revenue is inflecting sharply, and the fixed-cost structure means the operating leverage is real. Total revenue shows the step-function; operating income shows the swing. Management reiterated the ~$50M cash OpEx plan and expects the fourth quarter to be cash-generative, with cash of $41.2M on the balance sheet.

What's still open: management again declined to issue formal 2026 revenue guidance, but says discussion of 2027 guidance is active — and the every-100-patients ≈ $30M revenue / ~$0.70 free-cash-per-share framework gives a clear sensitivity. Japan/Asia-Pacific partnering talks are ongoing, with a Hiroshima trip planned, adding a possible second geographic lever beyond the Norgine EU ramp.

There is also a broader backdrop worth noting: the global 20263 keyword set, which includes brand awareness and "Earnings growth" as top themes, suggests Fennec's focus on building an awareness franchise around an underdiagnosed toxicity (not just selling a drug) aligns with a pharma-wide push toward marketing-led differentiation. For a small-cap with a rare-disease asset, this is genuinely unusual — and it's one reason the stock has re-rated so hard. Whether July's record demand was a one-off or the new baseline is the key question; so far, the tape is voting for the latter.
