Robinhood's real-world gamble: a chain, a trillion-dollar ambition, and the Trump-account flywheel
Q2 2026 delivered record revenue and deposits — but the signal is the company-unique pivot to on-chain real-world assets, funded by a disciplined core.

The record quarter hiding a re-platforming
On the surface, Robinhood's Q2 2026 was a straight growth-at-scale beat. Revenue hit a record $1.3B, up 32% year over year; adjusted EBITDA was $741M at a 57% margin; EPS came in at $0.62, up 48%. Net deposits were a record $22B — a 28% annualized growth rate — and the company added nearly one million funded customers in a single quarter, its strongest top-of-funnel intake since the IPO. The engine is humming across the board: direct deposits into Robinhood Banking, a Gold Card past one million cardholders driving over $17B of annualized purchase volume, and 4.8M gold subscribers at a 17% attach rate. “To start, the core business is going strong. Net deposits were a record 22 billion, a 28% growth rate.” — Shiv Kumar Verma, CFO · 2026-07-29 But the quarter's real content is the map, not the margin. With the stock up ~56% over the last 90 trading days — recovering from a 29% drawdown off its October 2025 peak — management is channeling that scale into a wholesale bet that the next phase lives on-chain. Revenue is still compounding at a 5-year pace of roughly 370%, yet the fresh revenue lines barely register in the financials so far. They are option value, funded by a core that keeps printing.A tokenization bet the market hasn't priced yet
The launch of Robinhood Chain at "The World is Flat" is the clearest statement of intent: a purpose-built layer-2 for real-world assets, with the USDG stablecoin and the 7% APY Robinhood Earn product layered on top. Early traction is striking — over $12B of decentralized-exchange volume, the fastest chain ever to 100 million transactions, more than $200M pulled into Robinhood Earn within weeks, and tokenized US stocks live in over 120 countries. “We saw over 12 billion in DEX volume... it was also the fastest chain to get to 100 million transactions we are well north of 150 million transactions at this point.” — Vladimir Tenev, Chairman and CEO · 2026-07-29 What is notable is how company-unique this is. The global keyword slate shows tokenization only as a nascent, sporadic theme — tokenized fund and Tokenized stocks appear as low-footprint curiosities in a scattering of quarters, not a market-wide wave. Robinhood is deliberately riding ahead of that wave, tying Rothera — already a top-three designated contract market in Prediction markets after a single month — into the same on-chain thesis. The strategy was telegraphed last quarter and is now live: “the first version of our tokenization offering didn't have significant advantages over holding traditional stocks. But once we unlock the power of DeFi, then you get twenty-four-seven trading. You get the ability to self-custody your stock.” — Vladimir Tenev, Chairman and CEO · 2026-02-10 The US ambition was flagged a year earlier: “the real opportunity in the U.S. would be tokenizing assets that were previously inaccessible... private markets and related real-world assets.” — Vladimir Tenev, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) · 2025-07-31Trump accounts: a new, durable deposit channel
The other genuinely new vector is the Trump account — the government-backed savings program for which Robinhood serves as sole initial broker and trustee. The early numbers are unusually large for a channel that didn't exist a quarter ago: seven million children enrolled and roughly $1.5B of contributions before most philanthropic and employer-funded flows have begun. Critically, July net deposits are tracking around $4B — with Trump accounts excluded. “7 million children have signed up. We have seen over 1.5 billion in or nearly 1.5 billion, I should say, is number of contributions into Trump accounts already.” — Shiv Kumar Verma, CFO · 2026-07-29 That is the shape of a durable, non-cyclical net-deposit engine layered on top of the more cyclical trading revenue.Discipline, leverage, and a 10x ambition
All of this is being financed without sacrificing discipline. Management lowered and tightened 2026 adjusted OpEx + SBC guidance to a $2.675–$2.775B range — even while absorbing the costs of Rothera and WonderFi — and June's opportunistic $2.2B raise came at a 0% coupon with no dilution until the shares clear $300. Year-to-date buybacks total 7.5M shares for $664M. The tension shows up on the balance sheet: liabilities-to-assets rose about 7.6 points year over year to ~79%, and free cash flow remains extraordinarily lumpy — from a $3.4B quarter to a −$1.7B one in successive quarters. On AgenTic trading — the AI-agent trading wrapper shipped this quarter — early adoption (over 100K accounts funded, options added within weeks) is a leading indicator of where management sees the next leg of market share coming from. And Shiv framed the destination explicitly:The market has already re-rated some of this in: price-to-revenue sits near 12x, down from over 26x at the 2025 peak — giving the tokenization optionality a cheaper entry even as the core compounds. Whether the token thesis pays off, the quarter confirms Robinhood is no longer just a trading app; it is repositioning itself for a world that trades on-chain.we do not comment on the stock price specifically, but if what we have said before is that we believe we can 10x the business over the next 10 years... when you look at assets, assets are the greatest predictor.
