Mach7's Fourth Positive Cash Quarter Comes With a Footnote
Four straight quarters of operating cash flow, a flagship VA project that quietly ended, and a Flamingo suite that now has to install rather than demo
M7T.AX · Earnings Call · 2026-10-25
The headline, and the footnote under it
Mach7 generated A$0.3 million of positive operating cash flow in the September quarter against a A$3.7 million outflow a year earlier — the fourth consecutive positive quarter, and the first time in the company's history it has been cash-positive in a seasonally weak first quarter. Customer receipts were A$7.3 million, up 58%, and the company closed with A$19.3 million of cash, no debt, and a market capitalisation of roughly A$41 million. Nearly half of the equity value is in the bank. Then the CFO, Shawni Hadfield, does something most micro-cap CFOs don't: she reads out the footnote herself. Capitalised development rose to A$0.7 million from A$0.3 million, and she adds it back — “If you added that spend back into operating costs, we'd be close to breakeven with a small outflow of $0.3 million.” — Shawni Hadfield, Chief Financial Officer · 2026-10-25 There is a second distortion too: staff costs fell from A$6.0 million to A$4.7 million, but she notes "a portion of this decrease relates to the R&D payments sitting in investing cash flows rather than operating." So two levers — capitalisation and classification — flatter the operating line, and the fix to the messy older administrative processes that delayed annual invoices is what genuinely drove the 58% receipts jump. The improvement is real. A A$4 million burn becoming a A$0.3 million burn on a like-for-like basis is still a swing of more than A$3.7 million. But it is a cash-quality story, not a growth story, and management volunteers the caveat rather than waiting to be caught. The flagship that stopped being mentioned
The most interesting thing in this call is a sentence in the prepared remarks that nobody asked about. Contracted ARR — CARR, the measure that includes signed but not-yet-live revenue — came in at A$25.3 million, down 7.4% in constant currency. The reason: “The majority of that decline is driven by the Veterans Health Administration ending its NTP project. That was quite a significant project.” — Shawni Hadfield, Chief Financial Officer · 2026-10-25 Rewind twelve months. The VA was the centrepiece of the FY26 story — a Phase 1 rollout, A$11.7 million of total contract value over three years, explicit Phase 2 optionality, and a newly created government affairs function to walk the other VA sites through the paperwork. That optionality is now a write-down in CARR. The NTP project appears once in the entire call, in the CFO's remarks, inside a paragraph about something else. The keyword set tells the same story from another angle: recurring revenue now sits at the top of the company's narrative and receipts just jumped into it, while "sales orders" — which management quantified in dollar terms as recently as January 2026, splitting out A$2.9 million of renewals from A$0.9 million of add-ons — has fallen out of the vocabulary entirely. Bookings leadership gave way to cash collections leadership. That is usually what a company does when the bookings aren't there to lead with.Process-wise, though, the good thing is once we get this Phase 1 rollout process done... I feel optimistic about it. We have created a government affairs part of the business to engage with the other visits.
Flamingo has been incubating for four quarters
The product story is not new, which is precisely what makes it interesting. Flamingo first surfaced in the keyword record a year ago; new module followed, and this quarter the fresh term is early adopter — four large customers lined up, five modules (Foundation, Storage, Worklist, Sonar, Flow), a demo at RSNA next month, installs in early calendar 2027. The architectural idea is a genuine answer to Mach7's structural problem. A modular, vendor-neutral layer can sit alongside a competitor's PACS instead of demanding a rip-and-replace, which lowers the entry ticket and lets electronic health record integration and connection to Epic become the wedge rather than the whole sale. Teri Thomas is explicit that this is the way around a long enterprise sales cycle: customers "can start with orchestration without purchasing the full archive. We've already won a new customer that way." The company is also selling imaging data platform plumbing as AI-enablement — arguably the most defensible position a small vendor can hold as health systems decide where their model-ready image data lives. But the timeline has moved. On the August call, RSNA was the unveiling: “RSNA is kind of going to be a coming out party for some of our new -- new Flamingo modules.” — Teri Thomas, CEO · 2026-08-27 Now it is a demonstration, and the milestone has shifted one step further out to installed customers by June 2027. Meanwhile ARR grew 8.5% in constant currency. That is not a growth rate; it is a maintenance rate with a product launch on top.Three numbers, and the cash question left hanging
Pushed by a shareholder question about what would prove the turnaround, Thomas gave the cleanest scorecard the company has offered: ARR that never retraces a quarter, new logos from outside the installed base, and several customers running Flamingo modules by June.It is an honest concession that the reset year fixed the cost base but not the growth engine — and consistent with the CEO's own admission a year ago that the pipeline was “not as big as I would like. It's just not where I wanted to be entirely.” — Teri Thomas, CEO · 2025-10-30 Guidance remains absent: “We are not giving guidance at this point.” — Shawni Hadfield, Chief Financial Officer · 2026-10-25 What has gone unsaid is more striking than what was said. With A$19.3 million of cash against a A$41 million market cap, the buyback question should be loud. A year ago it was “on foot, pending the finish of our strategic review.” — Teri Thomas, CEO · 2025-10-30 It did not come up once. Neither did acquisitions, which management ruled out repeatedly through 2025 and 2026. The company is sitting on roughly half its market value in cash, refusing to deploy it, and asking shareholders to underwrite a product cycle whose revenue lands beyond the visible horizon. There is one cross-market echo worth noting. recurring revenue quality is the obsession of nearly every software and services reporter in this window — a theme shared with NEPA, VIT, PRIC and EXS — but for Mach7 it is boilerplate rather than differentiation. The company-unique content is Flamingo, Worklist and the vendor-neutral orchestration pitch, and none of that has a revenue number attached yet.Shareholders want more signed contracts and faster revenue growth. So do I. The rest of this presentation is about how we're going to get there.
