Endpoint IC bookings hit a new high as food and logistics momentum accelerates, driving a step-change in revenue and a strategic shift.

Impinj's second-quarter results were a standout, with record revenue, adjusted EBITDA, and earnings per share, and the stock has responded with a 63% surge over the past 90 days. The company's pivot from a component supplier toward a solutions provider is underway, and the early signals are strong.

A Record Quarter and a Resurgent Stock

The numbers are striking: revenue hit $108.4 million, up 46% sequentially and 11% year-over-year. Endpoint IC bookings reached an all-time high for the second consecutive quarter, driven by demand across retail apparel, general merchandise, and supply chain and logistics. The third-quarter guide calls for revenue between $105.5 and $108.5 million, implying continued strength. After a challenging Q1, where revenue fell 20% sequentially, the rebound is decisive. CFO Cary Baker framed it simply:

Second quarter revenue was a record $108.4 million, up 46% sequentially from $74.3 million in first quarter 2026 and up 11% year-over-year from $97.9 million in second quarter 2025.

The driver? Chris Diorio noted "For the second consecutive quarter, endpoint IC bookings also hit an all-time high, driven by strong demand across retail apparel, general merchandise and supply chain and logistics." This is broad-based growth, not a one-off.

Food Goes from Pilots to Programs

The food opportunity is a central theme. The company is supporting four distinct food programs: store replenishment, in-store inventory, loss identification, and automated self-checkout. Notably, large U.S. grocer engagement has expanded — three of the five largest U.S. grocers have announced pilots or deployments. Diorio described the market expansion as "far larger and faster than anything I've seen in our industry's history." The loss identification use case, for example, targets unscanned items at point of sale, a pain point that he quantified: "The loss identification at point of sale — we had one grocer come to us and say they lose $100 million a year from theft at point of sale." The food opportunity is still early, but the pace of adoption is unlike anything the company has seen.

Logistics Visibility Improves with Custom ASIC

The custom ASIC for the second large North American supply chain and logistics customer is ahead of schedule. This is more than just a product win — it solves a recurring operational problem. Cary Baker explained: "With the transition to a custom IC, we have much better visibility. We know what we ship into the channel. We know what gets pulled from the channel, and therefore, we know what is left in the channel when the day is done." This good visibility into channel inventory is a direct response to the missteps of prior Q1s, which were plagued by channel inventory surprises. The ASIC ramp also contributes to gross margin expansion, adding to the company's confidence. The Q1 fundamentals, though weak, were a trough: total revenue in the 10-Q stood at $74M, but the Q2 call shows a sharp recovery.

The Solutions Ambition

The company is deliberately shifting toward being a solution provider, leveraging Gen2X and machine learning to deliver what Chris calls "hard event data." As Diorio put it, "When we read it, we have certainty that that's the item. It arrives at that time and that location. And that kind of hard data is a boon to AI models because you don't have to create synthetic data." This is a strategic differentiator, positioning Impinj to capture more value across the stack. The use of using Gen2X to enable fixed reading is a key part of the plan, moving the industry from handheld scanning toward autonomous, data-rich environments. The quarter represents a clear inflection point. Record bookings, a resurgent food pipeline, improved logistics visibility, and a strategic push into solutions give Impinj its strongest footing in years. The stock's move reflects this optimism, and if the company can sustain this momentum, the opportunity ahead could be significant.
