HARMONi's Western convergence
Summit Therapeutics reported a quiet-but-loaded Q2: no new Phase III headline, but the company served the data that regulators and investors have been waiting for. The updated overall survival analysis from the global HARMONi trial in EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer showed a hazard ratio of 0.76 in both the total population and, crucially, in Western patients now followed a median of 23 months. That is the first time the regional data have converged with Asia.“Western patients increased their time on study, reaching a median follow-up of over 23 months.” — Mahkam Zanganeh, Executive or Senior Management · 2026-07-23 The prior call, in February 2026, leaned on the same theme but from a shallower dataset: Dave Gancarz had stressed the importance of follow-up time to convince regulators of translatability. Now the Western patients curve has matured, and the survival gap versus Asian patients has essentially disappeared, a point management repeated on the call. This shift matters commercially as much as clinically. The November 14 PDUFA date is approaching, and the FDA has said it would need a statistically significant OS benefit for approval in this setting. The updated analysis, with a nominal p-level below significance, may not convert to statistical significance, but it strengthens the totality-of-evidence argument and, for the first time, demonstrates that the drug's survival benefit is not a China-only phenomenon. As Dave Gancarz put it, the takeaway is that "maturity and follow-up time is critical, in particular, for ivonescimab as a next-generation immunotherapy."“The takeaway... is that maturity and follow-up time is critical, in particular, for ivonescimab as a next-generation immunotherapy.” — Dave Gancarz, Chief Financial Officer · 2026-07-23All of the readouts that we've seen to date have pointed in one direction, which has been highly encouraging.
