Sobi Raises Revenue, Not Margin—and Hands the Next Chapter to a New CEO
Q3 showed 26% growth ex-Beyfortus and a higher top-line guide, but unchanged EBITDA guidance and a leadership transition keep the story from being clean.
SOBI.ST · Earnings Call · 2026-10-27
A strong quarter with an asterisk
Sobi's Q3 2026 report is, on the surface, a beat-and-raise. Revenue was SEK 9.1bn, up 16% at constant currencies; strip out the RSV royalty phasing and growth was 26%. Year-to-date growth was 23%, adjusted EBITDA margin was 45% in the quarter and 40% year to date, and net debt was just below SEK 15bn, or 1.1x EBITDA. Management raised full-year revenue guidance to high-teens to low-20s growth from mid-to-high teens. “Q3 revenues grew 16%, excluding the RSV effect... we grew 26%. Year to date performance is 23%” — Guido Oelkers, CEO · 2026-10-27. That is not a company struggling for momentum. But the raise came with a conspicuous non-raise:
we have raised the outlook for revenue. The outlook for the adjusted EBITDA margin, is unchanged.
The margin guide remains mid-to-high 30s. For a business already at 40% YTD, that is the central tension of the call.
Why the margin wasn't raised
The sell side noticed immediately. Kirsty Ross-Stewart of BNP Paribas asked how the bottom end of the margin range could be realistic with Q4 typically higher-margin, and why management had not upgraded. Guido Oelkers pointed to a “significant investment program” into launches and clinical trials; Henrik Stenqvist added that Q4 will carry an acceleration in spending around Aspaveli and the Tryngolza launch. The other excuse is the royalty stream they do not control: Beyfortus royalty revenue was 39% below prior year, and management leaned on a physician survey—85% seeing stable or growing immunization, 90% preference—to argue the issue is phasing, not demand. This is a recurring Sobi debate. A year ago Guido was saying “it's in the hands of Sanofi. They seem to be confident about the product” — Guido Oelkers, CEO · 2025-07-16. The more things change, the more Beyfortus remains the swing factor in quarterly optics. That does not make the Q3 result weak; it makes the headline growth rate less informative than the ex-Beyfortus number.
What is genuinely new: Tryngolza, Latin America, and the succession clock
The freshest company-specific catalyst is Tryngolza. Sobi received a positive CHMP opinion in severe hypertriglyceridemia earlier than expected, and management now expects to pull the European launch forward by two months. This is not a sector-wide wave; it is a Sobi-specific regulatory win in a large, under-served lipid indication. It also explains why Q4 opex steps up even as revenue guidance rises—the company is choosing to spend into the launch. The second new pillar is Latin America, where the Pint Pharma transaction closed on October 2. Guido framed it as a long-duration growth engine rather than a near-term bolus: “In a 10-year horizon, you would assume that this business is at least as large as our European business. If not larger.” — Guido Oelkers, CEO · 2026-10-27 That is a big claim for a region that historically contributed a small slice of sales, but it fits the strategic logic of diversifying away from Europe and the U.S. royalty stream. The third new item is governance. Guido will leave in January after nearly a decade; the board is searching for a successor and hopes to name one before year-end. He was careful: “expectation, not a guarantee to have, you know, a name to report back. Before the end of year.” — Guido Oelkers, CEO · 2026-10-27 For a company whose growth story has been heavily M&A- and launch-execution-led under this CEO, the handoff matters as much as any single quarter.
Pipeline: visible progress, visible delays
The pipeline narrative has rotated. Gamifant is now the highlighted growth engine: Japan approvals in HLH/MAS, a planned Phase III in malignant HLH with first patient in Q1 2027, and the sepsis/EVEREST program moving toward a mid-2027 start. Vonjo received a Fast Track designation in VEXAS, but it is no longer the centerpiece of the call the way it was in prior periods. Meanwhile, the near-term catalysts are not all clean. The NASP complete response letter is still unresolved; Lydia Abad-Franch said the company is in “the midst of the meetings” with FDA and would not preempt the filing path. On the prior call she was more specific: “The meeting with FDA has not been scheduled yet. We have 90 days to align with FDA on that.” — Lydia Abad-Franch, Executive, likely Head of Clinical or Medical Affairs · 2026-07-16 That was July. Three months later, the language is still process-heavy. Posetiristat is also later: REDUCE 1 top-line has moved to Q1 2027, and Lydia attributed the shift to keeping data blinded until secondary-endpoint scans complete: “the only reason why we have moved a few months, the reduced 1, compared to previous communication is due to keeping the data blinded until all the scans are completing on the secondary endpoint.” — Lydia Abad-Franch, Executive, likely Head of Pipeline or similar · 2026-10-27 It is a defensible quality-control decision, but it pushes a key gout catalyst to the right. The positive counterpoint is Aspaveli: sales rose 32% to SEK 417m and Sobi reached its 2026 nephrology patients target a quarter early. After several quarters of “wait for later quarters” on that launch, this is the first clear inflection.
The bottom line
Sobi is not a broken growth story. Altuvoct is still growing triple digits, hemophilia A is up 48%, Gamifant and Doptelet are compounding, and the revenue guide moved higher. But the quality of the beat is mixed: Beyfortus phasing flatters the underlying comparison, the margin guide did not move despite strong YTD profitability, and two near-term pipeline catalysts—NASP and posetiristat—remain timing-sensitive. Add a CEO transition and a Doptelet patent expiry in July 2027, and the next twelve months are less about whether Sobi can grow than about whether it can convert growth into durable margin and pipeline news under new leadership. The quarter earns a raised revenue guide; it does not yet earn a raised margin guide. That is the story.
